From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Religion (from O.Fr. religion "religious community," from L. religionem (nom. religio) "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods," "obligation, the bond between man and the gods" is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or more in general a set of beliefs explaining the existence of and giving meaning to the universe, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Aspects of religion include narrative, symbolism, beliefs, and practices that are supposed to give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life. Whether the meaning centers on a deity or deities, or an ultimate truth, religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, and is often interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws and ethics and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures, with continental differences. The term "religion" refers both to the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system", but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. Religion is often described as a communal system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought, unseen being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine, or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition, rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion is also often described as a "way of life" or a life stance. From Wikipedia under the

The majority of Americans have no understanding of other religions, especially Islam, although other religions are under attack by Americans (Jews, Buddhist and Hindu). The government, both Democrats and Republicans, are very religious. Currently, I find the US government is being run by fanatical Fundermentalist Christians who have no understanding of other religions or cultures, and this has led to the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, and insults of other nations. Democracy is a term that is hard to explain or define. British, Australian and New Zealanders have a different viewpoint to Americans.… [cont.] Answered by Walter B - Sun Sep 30 20:31:22 2007 Religion is censored in school, so what are the religious things that are prohibited? The law of non-contradiction is the foundation for all logical thinking. It is known by a couple different names: the law of contradiction, and the law of non-contradiction. No matter what you call it, this law is absolutely inviolable. The law may be defined as follows: a statement cannot be true and not true at the same time and in the same respect. For example: It cannot be both raining and not raining at the same time and in the same respect. It could have been raining yesterday, but not today. Or, it could be raining where I live but not where you live. But it cannot be both raining and not raining at the same time and in the same place. The law of non-contradiction is a very useful tool in helping to arrive at the truth regarding… [cont.] Answered by Defending the truth - Sun Oct 26 17:21:46 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "religion" Ron Ramsey, Tenn.
