An illustration is a visualization such as a drawing, painting, photograph or other work of art that stresses subject more than form. The aim of an illustration is to elucidate or decorate textual information (such as a story, poem or newspaper article) by providing a visual representation. HistoryEarly historyThe earliest forms of illustration were prehistoric cave paintings. Before the invention of the printing press, books were hand-illustrated. Illustration has been used in China and Japan since the 8th century, traditionally by creating woodcuts to accompany writing. 15th century through 18th centuryDuring the 15th century, books illustrated with woodcut illustrations became available. The main processes used for reproduction of illustrations during the 16th and 17th centuries were engraving and etching. At the end of the 18th century, lithography allowed even better illustrations to be reproduced. The most notable illustrator of this epoch was William Blake who rendered his illustrations in the medium of relief etching. Illustration by Santiago Martinez Delgado. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by Sexy Sadie - Sat Aug 9 19:38:20 2008 How much will Getty or Corbis pay for my illustration rights? Q. If I sold a really awesome illustration to a big stock company like Corbis, Getty Images or the like, how much will they pay me for the rights? Once I sell the rights, can anyone who buys my work put their name on it as their own? That would suck. Asked by Orange - Thu Jun 25 08:41:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I usually go straight to them and ask, they both have a contacts link on the websites. The main thing here is that it would remain your property until you sell the rights and then they can print and publish all over the place but they don't just do it like they, they may offer you royalty fees and the like. It all depends on what you work is going to be used for. I have been paid 200 per page and that was for a comic strip over 10 years ago, I have no idea how corbis or getty works. They look royalty free some of them. Answered by Andy D - Thu Jun 25 09:45:29 2009 How do i find a writer for my illustration book?
Q. How is it work with a writer? Does she or he have to be part of my book like " writing by (his or her name) and illustration by me? Or I just pay them off and not be part of it? If he or she become part of my book, does that mean she or he gets 50 percents when published? Asked by Jen - Sat Jun 16 16:43:09 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It depends on what kind of contract you have with the writer and, of course, the publishing company. I can write but I have limited illustration skills. Therefore, if this were for a children's book, I would say 50/50 would be appropriate as far as compensation. Different if the illustrations simply support the text. Both artists should be recognized, though, on the cover. I'd be interested in seeing what you have to offer as a possible collaboration. The best of luck to you.
